The delivery of the fetus through an incision made through the skin, abdomen and uterus is a cesarean delivery.  The type of incision made during an cesarean section affects future deliveries.  The three most common incisions are lower transverse, lower vertical and classical.   Learn about cesarean sections and talk to your care provider for more information.   

Lower Transverse "Bikini" Incision

The incision through the skin and abdomen is made in a horizontal line on the lower abdomen. The lower transverse incision is the most common cesarean section. It has also been associated with less postoperative pain.
